Light from Dark
“How do you bring light from dark?”
wondered the boy.
“By belaying a belly-ache with a belly-laugh,”
answered the sailor.
“By meditating on a smile,”
mused the mystic.
“By walking through darkness till you come to light,”
taught the Taoist.
“By favoring yourself with your favorite food,”
pushed Pooh.
“By asking what darkness is for,”
recommended Jung.
“By singing These Are a Few of My Favorite Things,”
noted Julie Andrews.
“By remembering the light and light times,”
proffered Pa.
“By being blind as me,”
bandied the bat.
“By changing ‘dark’ to ‘lark’,”
imagined the poet.
“By going to bed and waking with the morning sun,”
murmured Ma.
“By lighting a fire,”
put out Prometheus.
“By clothing darkness in sparkling ornaments,”
laughed St. Nick.
“All these?”
wondered the boy.
